The End and The Beginning

Only a week ago I was living in a darkroom stressing and wrestling over final projects like this:

{Working on my Color Concepts final...aka: Q and his uniform}

I was looking forward to summer break and doing little to nothing for a while but the funny thing is it wasn't long before I found myself setting this up:

{The very beginnings of a new set and project}

I missed the projects and the entire process faster than ever before and I gladly gave in to it. I was trying to figure out why this was different from breaks before and I  kept going back to a lecture I LOVED this past semester (by Gregory Hiesler). He gave the single most incredible and honest advice I've heard my whole college career and I think voluntarily making work for myself validated his words for me even more. He said when defining your "style or look" as a photographer you just have to:

"Shoot what you cant help but shoot..."

This may sound simple and obvious but its incredibly easy to loose sight of in the middle of hundreds of other visual artists. Luckily those words, my free time, and my vision have finally come together and Ive started one of several projects I'd like to shoot over the summer. Excited is an understatement! I'll be back to share some of these projects and "what I cant help but shoot" soon. Happy Monday peeps!
